A journey to distant destinations

Life and everything associated with it is so fragile. In good times we take everything for granted. Like they will go on forever. Until it all comes falling down like a pack of cards. Objectivity dictates that you take it with a pinch of salt and move on. That is what practicality also dictates. Why then do we feel a tug? Why do we feel the pain, when the heart should ideally give way to the brain? Why haven’t we learnt the mechanized way of life yet?

You’ve seen a dream for longer than you can think back. Everything is falling in place and you’re a few steps away from the materialization of your dream. And then everything falls apart right in front of your eyes. How do you stay rooted to objectivity and “move on”. When you know that the fulfillment of that dream meant the world to you. How do you cope when your world has crashed in front of you? Can you blame it on the negative thinking? The slight fear at the back of your mind, which cautioned you at every step not to set your expectations too high. The slight fear which, made you do everything right, so that nothing comes in the way. The slight fear which tells you in the end “Didn’t I tell you so?” It’s aptly said that we must expect the best and be prepared for the worst. Even in the good times. Because we’ve no clue how short lived the good times will be. Better to be prepared than caught off guard me thinks.

They say that life is too long to remain hung up about something you didn’t get. And I always retort back saying I disagree. Ofcourse, in due course of time, the peaceful calm will return. It is the phase between the turbulence and serenity that is killing. Time does heal everything and life teaches you to shut up and put up. How are you to sail through the intermediate time with dignity? Who do you show your tears of pain? Who do you turn to when the only shoulder you could cry upon has deserted you? Or could desert you anytime. Just like that.

It makes me think that someone up there is not too happy with stability in good times. He has to interject them with good doses of sadness, so that we keep base with patience, humility and the ability to continue loving people and giving back. Also makes me think how deficient our spiritual growth must be, to make up for which, we have chosen such a hard life for ourselves. And I know it is true, because there are people whose lives have literally been a bed of roses. Sugar, spice and everything nice. And then there are the lesser mortals. But like Dr. Brian Weiss very rightly says. “We’ll get many chances to get it right”. And then- some other time, some other life, things will be as we wanted them to be. As they should be. As they will be.
