No time ?

How often have we put off calling near and dear ones under the pretext of being busy? Are we really that busy? Is there really no time? Not even 5 minutes? "The coming weekend or the upcoming holiday for sure" we say and bury the guilt of not having done something we could have done. And when the said day does come, there are still a dozen things to be attended to before we can take a breather. "There is always time! They'd understand, which is why they are my own"

What if someone were to tell you, that it is now or never? For you or for the one you had wanted to speak to? Would you believe them? Who are we trying to kid when we think that we have forever to do some things?

Distances keep growing, while you were busy trying to get a hold on your life. Then one fine day when you really wish to talk to them, you make that call. The conversation happens, but is way too shallow. You fail to find that connection. We get alienated all the more from people who knew us in and out once. Who could understand us by the mere look on our faces. But now with so much to catch up on, can you really blame them for not understanding what lies beneath?

Maybe family will still forgive you for the neglect, but the hurt would remain. Can you make the same expectation from everyone though?

Certain things need continous working upon. Constant building, constant maintenance. Else the cracks deepen. The distances become so much that even a crisis seems trivial to be discussed. Are you ready for that kind of a neglect? Would you have an answer for your best pal's question "Where were you when I needed you so much?"

Does it really take that much? If you can think about them a dozen times a day,it is that difficult to send them a tiny email or make a 2 minute call?

wat you said is perfectly true..
we always try to find something or the other to get ourselves busy when we are supposed to be there for our loved ones..

AMAL BOSE:Thanks for dropping by! :-) Yea...wish we'd learn now rather than regret later!

NUPS: Thanks Nups :-) Not like we don't know it, but when it comes to making that choice, we choose to put the important off and prioritize the un-important. Something we ought not to do! :-)

It's a wonder how many excuses people come up with for not keeping in touch.

I agree so totally with everyhting you've said. That's why I say, when u think of someone, when you miss someone, put in an email or call that second. With all the technology we are surrounded by, it's Never too late to let someone know you care about them... and they mean a lot to you !!!

The mostest sadest thing is that we know all this but most of the time we just let it be.
What's worse, we always take for granted the ppl who love us the most.

I'm personally not proud of myself about this stuff. I write, I talk, I seldom act :(

P.S: But I do make and receive belated calls and then we make up for all the lost time :)

The art of writing letters may soon be lost...with emails, cell phones, texting etc. etc.

Letters were a slower, relaxed more in depth communication...a way of feeling connected and personal...a nice long letter is so enjoyable...but I love it when my older grandchildren give me a quick phone call or email...just to say hello...or when my daughter quickly drops off a few books...You are right...doesn't take much time for loved ones to be comforted by a quick call or visit...Little things mean a lot.

Stillness, I believe all of us are guilty of this sometime in our lives. It's so nice that you thought to bring it to the forefront and give us all a nudge to make that call and keep the connection. Love it!
Have a great day...:-) Hugs

ADISHA: Bang on!! I'm left with nothing more to add :-)

STILL THINKING: I agree. Weird isn't it. That this is what we do to our loved ones!

The very fact that you just don't let it be, says a lot :-) It's nice that you make those calls. Big deal if not on that date. Atleast you do it and not put it off for that date next year :-)

WANDA: I so agree with you there. Snail mail always felt so good. So much more personal and meaningful! But it takes unusually long to reach the recipient! Within the country it can take a week atleast and overseas 10 to 15 days. It's nice that something faster is replacing it, but not many make use of it as much as they should. Which is why it's said that even though all of that was invented to bring people closer, it's done none of it, with distances increasing everyday. We have the time to chat with someone we don't know online, but we seldom catch up with the next door neighbor. I really don't comprehend this! Little things do mean a LOT :-)

BERNIE: Who isn't guilty of this? I am too in a BIG way ! Like Adisha said above, the moment you remember it, put it into an email and send, or make that call rightaway. That leaves no room for laziness or procrastination! :-) Loads of love to you too Bernie :-)
